What is affiliate marketing and how does it work

As an affiliate marketer you refer someone to a product or service and if that person makes a purchase on your recommendation, you receive a commission.

Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest online businesses one can create. You can literally start in minutes. Amazon for example is one of the biggest companies that uses affiliates to promote their product. In this case you could go to your Amazon account, sign up as an affiliate and then write a post about a product you recently purchased and loved, and then see if any of your friends decide to follow your recommendation and purchase a product.

Affiliate Marketing for bloggers and businesses

If you have a blog with readers or you are planning to create a blog. You can monetize your work with affiliate marketing. Quick and easy to start and you can link products and services that matches your blog posts.

If you are a business, you can still use affiliate marketing to supplement your income and to earn passive income.

I am almost in between those two – I have a blog and a business which all uses affiliate marketing to bring in extra revenue. On this blog I ofter write reviews and create tutorials around products that I use in my business. People then find me on Google, read/watch my posts and (hopefully) click links and purchase a product.

Where do I find products to promote?

First I recommend thinking of what products or services you use yourself and would recommend to a friend. Once you have few ideas search the company name + affiliate on Google to see if the company has an affiliate program and instructions how to sign up.

Many companies have affiliate programs via third parties – affiliate platforms – such as Shareasale.com or JVzoo.com.

How much does it cost to join affiliate program?

Nothing! If you come across a program that you need to pay to join – run!! There are numerous network marketing companies where you must purchase before you can promote them. There may be some good ones out these but I do recommend staying away from these kind of pyramid companies.

What do I need a website to start marketing?

No you could start with just using your social media account(s) and email. If you are serious about making money online, I recommend starting a blog or website that is based on your interest. I love talking about sales, marketing and business, so I write about those things on my blogs and earn commission when someone buys product/services on my recommendation.

How much time does it take to make money?

This really varies depending on what you promote and where you promote. My first multiple hundreds commission took 4 weeks from publishing blog post, but I have earned from Amazon within hours.

How much money can you make as an affiliate?

As much as you want! There is really no limit how much money you can make. I know people who make $1,000,000/ year as an affiliate marketer. Yes, that is correct amount of zeros! I am not at that level yet, but affiliate income makes a difference in my business each month.
